This is quite an interesting finding. I would want to know how comparable the group who had the cataract surgery, is with the group that that did not.
The group that had the cataract surgery may allow one to continue reading and doing other activities like exercise outdoors, and generally keeping active and occupied, that may slow down the development of dementia.
it will be interesting to know whether those who may have had poor outcome of the surgery in terms of good vision also had a reduced risk of developing dementia to the same extent
