Clarify your study and career motivations
Here are some questions to ask yourself:
- Where (geographically) do you want to work?
- Where (geographically) do you want to have impact?
- Are the answers to the first two questions the same or different? For example, do you want to gain insights or learn best practice from one location to take to another?
- Do you have a particular topic or community you wish to focus on? For example, a particular disease, population group, or issue (e.g. nutrition or sanitisation)?
- What type of organisation do you want to work for? For example, a local, national or international charity? A think tank? Local or national government? A university?
- What type of role are you most interested in?
- What do you want more/less of in your next job?
- What purpose do you want your work to serve?
- What types of people do you want to work with on a regular basis?
- How much time flexibility do you want in your working hours?
