Ashanti Development
About Ashanti Development:

Ashanti Development (AD) is a charity which was set up in 2005, when London-based Ghanaians asked their friends and neighbours for help to improve the lives of people in their home villages. We are a 100 per cent volunteer charity and pay no salaries or wages for work done in the UK, though we employ staff in Ghana.

We are looking for healthcare professionals to spend 2 weeks to 6 months in Central Ghana to work as volunteers at Mampong Government Hospital and/or one of the five community clinics we have built and/or with the Public Health Directorate. Mampong Hospital serves 6 local authorities and has 98 beds in the general wing and a further 56 elsewhere including the Maternity wing. There are daily outpatient clinics, with specialist clinics for HIV and Sickle cell, and an emergency department. It is short of staff in all departments and much of the day-to-day care is provided by physician assistants and nurses.  Malaria is the most common indication for admission followed by anaemia, pneumonia, diarrhoea, typhoid, hypertension and diabetes. Projects in Public Health include screening in communicable and non-communicable diseases, women and girls’ health, and children’s nutrition

Ashanti Development’s headquarters are in the village of Gyetiase, some 3km distant from Mampong. The village has changed little over the centuries but now has electricity and an internet connection. World Food Programme
About World Food Programme
The World Food Programme (WFP) is the leading humanitarian organization saving lives and changing lives, delivering food assistance in emergencies and working with communities to improve nutrition and build resilience.

In emergencies, WFP is often first on the scene, providing food assistance to the victims of war, civil conflict, drought, floods, earthquakes, hurricanes, crop failures and natural disasters. When the emergency subsides, WFP helps communities rebuild shattered lives and livelihoods. We also work to strengthen the resilience of people and communities affected by protracted crises by applying a development lens in our humanitarian response.

WFP development projects focus on nutrition, especially for mothers and children, addressing malnutrition from the earliest stages through programmes targeting the first 1,000 days from conception to a child’s second birthday, and later through school meals.

WFP is the largest humanitarian organisation implementing school feeding programmes worldwide and has been doing so for over 50 years. In 2021, WFP provided school meals to 15.5 million children, often in the hardest-to-reach areas.
